Volleyball splits pair of matches on opening day

CANYON, Texas — Rattler Volleyball began the season with a pair of games on the road in Day 1 of the 2017 Lady Buff Classic.
 
In the first contest of the day, the Rattlers faced Colorado State-Pueblo, falling in straight-sets, 3-0.
 
Leading the charge for the Rattlers were Channing Hankins, who recorded 13 kills, and Tarine Grace, who notched 11 as sophomore Bree Perry began her second season with a match-high 30 assists. Grace, along with Jaycie Pluenneke and MacKenzie Harless, would also post a team-high three blocks.
 
New Rattlers Monica Ramon and Mandee Eberlee made their presence felt in their debut as Ramon collected 13 digs while Eberlee notched 10 digs of her own with five kills.
 
The nightcap fared better for the Rattlers as they bounced back with a 4-1 victory over Adams State.
 
Eberlee sparkled with a match-high 20 kills to go along with 11 digs. Perry added 47 assists while Ramon collected 21 digs.
 
St. Mary's will return to action tomorrow when it plays in its final two matches of the Lady Buff Classic, beginning with a match against Texas-Permian Basin at 9 a.m.
