Baseball drops pair of games to UAFS

SAN ANTONIO — UAFS took two from St. Mary's Baseball on Friday to open up the final series of the regular season, winning 10-2 and 4-0 at Dickson Stadium.

St. Mary's, which entered the day tied with Lubbock Christian for first place in the Heartland Conference standings, are now limited to eyeing a second-place finish with a victory over UAFS in Saturday's series finale. 

The Rattlers (23-23) were not without opportunity in the nightcap, registering nine hits but stranding 13 runners in the shutout. 

Beau Barnes was 3 for 3 with a walk in Game 2, while Jack Kaiser recorded two hits in five at-bats. 

St. Mary's got a quality start from Chris Jones in Game 2, despite the senior suffering the hard-luck loss. He allowed just one run and struck out five over six innings of work, but couldn't get any run support as he departed the game trailing 1-0. 

The teams will finish the series at 1 p.m. Saturday on Senior Day.
