#6 Hawaii Pacific rallies to defeat #12 Women's Tennis at nationals

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Florida — An early doubles lead was not enough for No. 12 St. Mary's Women's Tennis as it made its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II national championship Round of 16.

Sixth-ranked Hawaii Pacific battled back for a 5-2 victory after entering singles trailing 2-1, advancing to the national championship quarterfinals at Sanlando Park.

St. Mary's (19-3) got off to the start it wanted, as Sindhu Ravula and Camille Clausse-Pujo defeated Leticia dos Santos and Bianca Schulhof, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles. Hawaii Pacific evened the match at 1-1 with a victory at No. 2 doubles, but Kaylin Kruseman and Tyra Timm gave the Rattlers the edge with an exciting match point to cap off an 8-5 victory over Lara Meccico and Barbora Kijasova at No. 1.

But Hawaii Pacific (14-5) reeled off four consecutive singles victories, winning on Courts 1, 2, 3 and 4 to take the match.

As the match came to a close, Mariela Sarinana led her match 7-5, 1-0 on Court 5, while Ravula led 6-2, 4-3 on Court 6.
