Women's Tennis tops Toppers in Heartland Championships final

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

DALLAS — St. Mary's Women's Tennis battled health, adversity and a feisty St. Edward's opponent in Saturday's Heartland Conference Championships.

But no matter what obstacle stood before them, they were not to be denied.

The 12th-ranked Rattlers outlasted St. Edward's 5-2, securing the Heartland Conference postseason championship to double-dip as regular-season and tournament champions. The Snakes (18-2) have won the last five Heartland championships.

Tyra Timm provided the fifth and decisive point, defeating Paola Carpio 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles.

The Rattlers entered singles leading 2-1, as Kaylin Kruseman/Tyra Tiimm and Sindhu Ravula/Camille Clausse-Pujo won the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively.

Kruseman and Mariela Sarinana also provided singles victories.

The Rattlers, the likely No. 1 seed in the NCAA South Central Regional, will now await their regional opponent.
