Thrilling doubleheader ends with split for @StMUsoftball

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

EDMOND, Oklahoma — Wednesday's doubleheader saw No. 19 St. Mary's Softball earn a split against No. 22 Central Oklahoma.

After falling 2-1 in extra innings in the opener, the Rattlers responded with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.

Instrumental in the Rattler victory was Kristal Salinas who went 2-for-4 at the plate in Game 2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

She would get the Rattlers on the board in the first inning after she stole home plate. In the seventh, after St. Mary's claimed the one-run lead, Salinas put the game away for good with a solo blast to left field.

Also registering a pair of hits apiece were Brenda Iparraguirre and Alessandra Ortiz.

Picking up the victory was Ashley Mills who tossed three scoreless innings while allowing only three hits and striking out five.

Game 1 was a one-run affair that saw the Rattlers fall victim to a walk-off victory by the Bronchos.

Raynelle Nash began the day's scoring with an RBI to center field that scored Alena Moreno. Along with Nash and Moreno, the other Rattlers to register a hit in the game were Salinas and Iparraguirre.

Jorden Russell allowed only one earned run in 7.2 innings tossed as her record falls to 15-5 on the season.

The Rattlers will end their final road trip of the season with a three-game series against Oklahoma Christian in a Heartland Conference battle starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
