Drive for Five: Women's Tennis wins 5th straight Heartland title

SAN ANTONIO — The Lady Rattlers defended their title, bringing home the Heartland Conference Women's Tennis regular-season championship once again. 

For the fifth straight season, the 12th-ranked Rattlers are Heartland champs. 

The atmosphere was electric as doubles play started, and the Lady Rattlers were hungry for the doubles sweep with No. 1 Kaylin Kruseman and Tyra Timm leading the way by dominating 8-1. Shortly after, No. 3 Camille Clausse-Pujo and Mariela Sarinana found their stride winning 8-1. No. 2 Hannah Petersen and Ally Maciel fought back and forth with the Hilltoppers until Petersen and Maciel got on top, and prevailed 8-5. 

"It feels really good to beat them," Sarinana said, "because they also had a streak of winning matches. It was very important for us to win. 

With a 3-0 lead into singles, the winning streak continued with No. 2 Kruseman showing the Lady Rattlers the way, winning 6-1, 6-0. 

The Lady Rattlers gathered together to clinch with No. 5 Petersen taking care of business, 6-1,6-2, and No. 6 Sarinana fighting for the win, 6-0,6-4. Timm followed running the court, prevailing 6-2,6-2. 

The Lady Rattlers will take on Texas A&M–Kingsville on Monday in Kingsville, Texas before getting ready for next week's Heartland Conference Championships in Dallas.
