By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

AUSTIN, Texas — Things are starting to come together at the right time for St. Mary's Baseball.

The Rattlers put the finishing touches on a series sweep of rival St. Edward's on Thursday, taking the "Battle of the Saints" series in style with a 7-3 victory at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

Hayden Hibler sizzled on the mound, allowing just a single hit over his first seven innings of work, while five Rattlers enjoyed multiple-hit outings to help the Snakes (17-19, 10-5 Heartland Conference) soar back into third place in the conference standings.

Bryan Ramirez drove in two runs in a 2-for-3 afternoon, while James Gillean, Donnie Perez, Jacob Aguilar and Oscar Betancourt also recorded two hits apiece. Aguilar and Betancourt added an RBI each in the victory.

St. Mary's took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double from Aguilar, an RBI triple from Ramirez and a passed ball that brought Ramirez home. The Rattlers made it 5-0 in the sixth on Betancourt's RBI single followed by a balk that scored Ramirez.

The Snakes tacked on two more runs in the seventh to lead 7-1 before yielding two late runs in the eighth.

Hibler picked up his third victory of the season, finishing the day with two strikeouts and five hits allowed over 7 2/3 innings of work. Trent Rousseau collected his seventh save, going the final 1 1/3 inning.

St. Mary's will travel to San Angelo, Texas for a mid-week nonconference game on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Rattlers will return home for a Heartland Conference series against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The three-game series gets underway at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dickson Stadium.
