By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANGELO, Texas — In a battle of two top-10 ranked teams, the No. 3 ranked St. Mary's Rattlers dropped a Wednesday doubleheader on the road to No. 8 ranked Angelo State.

St. Mary's and Angelo State battled close throughout Game 1, until the Rambelles struck for four runs in the fifth inning on a grand slam en route to a 5-1 ASU victory.

The Rattlers would cut into the deficit an inning later on an RBI single from Kristal Salinas. She would finish the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Marcela Vasquez produced at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored.

Jorden Russell went the distance for the Rattlers, dropping only her second game of the year, striking out five batters in six innings pitched.

Offensive struggles continued for the Rattlers in the nightcap as the Rambelles capitalized at home with a 10-0 shutout. The Rattlers were held to only two hits, each coming from the bats of Salinas and Alena Moreno.

This weekend, the Rattlers will begin conference play on the road against Lubbock Christian beginning with a doubleheader on March 10 starting at 5 p.m.
