Snakes bite early, hold off Hillcats in Heartland opener

CLAREMORE, Oklahoma — Conference play began for the St. Mary's Rattlers on Thursday night at Rogers State with a 6-3 victory.
 
Striking for five runs in the top of the first, the visiting Rattlers didn't look back as they begin conference play with a win.
 
Holden Grounds held his own against the Rogers State bats, going the full nine innings en route to his second win of the season. The senior would allow only three earned on six hits while striking out seven on 121 pitches.
 
James Gillean, Donnie Perez, Jacob Aguilar and Beau Barnes each finished the game with a pair of hits.
 
Scoring twice was Barnes whose solo shot in the third gave the Rattlers a 6-0 edge.
 
Jack Kaiser made the most of his lone hit as he began the afternoon's proceedings with a two-RBI double to center field in the top of the first.
 
St. Mary's and Rogers State will continue its series with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
