Jones, Minister deal as Rattlers sweep Hillcats

CLAREMORE, Oklahoma — Momentum is an asset that a team looks to build throughout the course of the season.

Safe to say, following the St. Mary's Rattlers series sweep of Rogers State, momentum is on the Rattlers' side as they defeated the Hillcats 5-2 and 8-3 respectively during Friday's doubleheader.

Game 1 was headlined by timely hitting from Bryan Ramirez, James Gillean and Jacob Aguilar, all of whom produced two hits in the ballgame, as well as a solid outing from Chris Jones on the mound en route to a 5-2 win.

Jones tossed 6.2 innings, allowing only one earned run on four hits while striking out three. Trent Rousseau would get the final out of the game to record his third save of the season.

The scoring started courtesy of an Aguilar single to right center field that scored a pair of runners, including Ramirez who was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, single, double, RBI and three runs scored.

In the nightcap, the Rattlers struck for six unanswered runs to start the game, beginning with an RBI double from Donnie Perez.

Gillean continued finding success at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance in the series finale that included a double, an RBI and a run scored. Jack Kaiser would also go 3-for-5 at the dish with a pair of runs.

True freshman Mason Minister collected his first career victory after throwing six complete innings where he allowed only two runs on three hits while striking out six.

Next week, the Rattlers return home to face Oklahoma Christian in a three-game set beginning on March 17.
