Rattlers open conference play with victory over DBU

SAN ANTONIO — The Lady Rattlers shined against Dallas Baptist University, winning 7-2 in their opening conference game Friday.

St. Mary's Women's Tennis (14-2, 1-0) came out attacking in doubles, as No.1 Kaylin Kruseman and Tyra Timm and No. 2 Ally Maciel and Hannah Petersen crushed the Patriots 8-2 and 8-4. No. 3 Mariela Sarinana and Camille Clausse-Pujo were left to battle it out point for point, digging in at 7-7 to bounce back and overcome the Patriots, 9-7.

The Lady Rattlers came into singles with a 3-0 lead from doubles, needing two more matches to clinch. No.1 Clausse-Pujo grabbed the first singles win for the Lady Rattlers, winning 6-4,6-2. No. 2 Kaylin Kruseman prevailed 6-2, 7-5 and No. 6 Sarinana used the winning momentum to win 6-3, 6-4.

No. 3 Maciel dug deep in her three-set triumph, taking the win for the Lady Rattlers 6-7(4), 6-0, 10-7.

Conference play continues for the Lady Rattlers next weekend, when they will face Newman and UAFS in Dallas.
