Brandl, Rattlers hold off Saints

SAN ANTONIO — The third annual Chili Cook-off was the precursor to St. Mary's hosting Our Lady of the Lake at Dickson Stadium.
 
The Rattlers would defeat the Saints 10-6, highlighted by a five-run fifth inning that was highlighted by a grand slam from Bryce Brandl.
 
After trailing 1-0 after a leadoff home run by the Saints' Russell Brown, the Rattlers responded with an RBI double from Donnie Perez and an RBI single from Brandl who would finish the game 2-for-4 with five RBI a run scored.
 
Perez finished the ballgame 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Bryan Ramirez finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
 
Following three straight runs by the Saints, the Rattlers put the game out of reach for good in the eighth with a two-RBI single from Oscar Betancourt.
 
Zack De La Garza picked up his first career victory after an inning of work which saw him strikeout one. Trent Rousseau notched his first save of the year after striking out three in one and a third innings thrown.
 
St. Mary's gets set for a three-game series against regional foe, Tarleton State. Game one will be on Friday Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. at Dickson Stadium before the teams will conclude the series in a doubleheader on Saturday.
