Michel, Rattlers strike again in extras

DURANT, Oklahoma — St. Mary's Softball continues to find ways to get it done in extra innings.
 
A day after earning an extra-innings victory over Missouri Southern, the Rattlers were back at it again Saturday, outlasting Arkansas Tech, 7-3, in a wild, eight-inning victory at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational.
 
Hannah Michel helped the Rattlers explode in the eighth inning with a three-RBI double moments after Staci Johns scored the go-ahead run following an error to turn a 3-3 tie into a 7-3 advantage.
 
Extra innings seemed unlikely entering the seventh inning, when a pair of clutch RBI-doubles erased a 2-0 deficit and gave the Rattlers a 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the frame. Raynelle Nash pulled off the first double, driving in Miranda Medina and Alessandra Ortiz. Marcela Vasquez then followed suit, bringing in Nash on an RBI double of her own.
 
Ashley Mills picked up her second straight victory in relief, striking out four and allowing just a single hit over three innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
 
Michel finished 1 for 4 on the day with three RBI and a walk, while Nash went 1 for 5 with two RBI. Vasquez was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
