Johns, Mills pitch gems as Rattlers walk it off in 9

DURANT, Oklahoma — It took nine innings, but No. 12-ranked St. Mary's Softball pulled out a memorable 2-1, walk-off victory over Missouri Southern to wrap up Friday's Opening Day festivities. 

Brenda Iparraguirre scored the winning run following a fielding error in right field on a ball hit by Alessandra Ortiz in the bottom of the ninth to help the Snakes (1-1) avenge a one-run loss earlier in the day to Cameron at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational. 

Staci Johns pitched a gem of a no-decision, outdone only by teammate Ashley Mills' sparkling three innings in relief. Johns struck out eight and allowed just one run over six innings, setting the scene for Mills to finish things off. Mills struck out six over three innings, surrendering no runs on one hit to pick up the victory. 

Marcela Vasquez had the Rattlers' lone RBI, driving in Hannah Michel in the third inning to tie the game at 3-3. Vasquez finished 1 for 3 in the game, while Michel was 1 for 4. Alena Moreno, Johns and Iparraguirre also had hits in the game. 

The Rattlers will return to action Saturday with two more games in the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational. They'll first take on Arkansas Tech at 12 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. tilt against Midwestern State.
