Etheridge surpasses 1,000 career rebounds as Snakes secure #2 seed

Rattlers defeat OPSU 76-64

GOODWELL, Oklahoma — Kiara Etheridge surpassed 1,000 career rebounds in Saturday's 76-64 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State, and in the process helped vault St. Mary's Women's Basketball into the No. 2 seed for next week's Heartland Conference Championships. 

Etheridge posted her 14th double-double of the season with 19 points and 16 rebounds in the victory, giving the St. Mary's and Heartland Conference all-time rebounding leader 1,007 career boards. 

Arysia Porter dazzled with a game-high-tying 19 points as the Rattlers (20-6, 12-4 Heartland Conference) clinched the No. 2 seed over Lubbock Christian because of tiebreakers. 

The Rattlers will take on Rogers State in Game 2 of the championships at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at the Union Multipurpose Activity Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tickets can be purchased online here.

St. Mary's, who swept Rogers State in the regular season, finished one game behind Heartland Conference regular-season champ St. Edward's. 4603

Against OPSU (3-22, 1-15), the Rattlers used a strong first half to carry them to victory. After opening up a six-point lead through one quarter, St. Mary's led 48-35 at the break in a game they would lead from start to finish. 

The Snakes held the Aggies to 37.3 percent shooting and dominated the glass, outrebounding OPSU 52-30.
