SAN ANTONIO — Kiara Etheridge put her name in the St. Mary's record books Saturday — and kept the Rattlers' Heartland Conference championship hopes alive in the process with an absolute gem of a performance at Bill Greehey Arena.

Etheridge reeled in 11 rebounds in the Rattlers' 72-48 rout of the conference-leading St. Edward's Hilltoppers, surpassing former All-American Morgan Pullins as the program's all-time career leading rebounder. 4570

Etheridge, a senior from San Antonio, now has 967 career boards, topping the old mark of 965.

But she did more than just rebound the ball against the Hilltoppers (15-7, 11-2), pouring in 21 points, five assists and three steals on Senior Day.

With the victory, St. Mary's (18-5, 10-3) moves within one game of St. Edward's for first place in the league standings.

Arysia Porter added 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while senior LaBraile Fields scored nine. Fellow senior Ciaira Briseno added seven points in her second straight start.

St. Mary's blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring St. Edward's 21-6 to take a 36-17 lead into halftime.

Etheridge, who made 8 of 14 field-goal attempts in the game, will now set her eyes on trying to become the first Rattler — and the first player in the entire Heartland Conference — to reach 1,000 career rebounds. Saturday marked her 12th double-double of the season.

The Rattlers will hit the road for the remainder of the regular season, starting with next Saturday's game at Texas A&M International. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in Laredo, Texas.
