Rattlers storm past LCU and into Heartland championship match

FORT SMITH, Arkansas — St. Mary's Volleyball reeled off victories in three straight sets to overcome an early deficit, knocking off No. 3 seed Lubbock Christian 3-1 in the Heartland Conference Championship semifinals.

The Rattlers, the tournament's second seed, advances to face top-seeded UAFS in the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.



Against LCU, St. Mary's (18-11) was led by terrific offensive displays from First-Team All-Conference honorees Channing Hankins and Tarine Grace, each of whom turned in a match-high 13 kills. Mandee Eberle added 12 kills, helping a Rattler attack that outhit the Chaps .203-.176.

Bree Perry had a match-high 51 assists, while Monica Ramon led all players with 36 digs.

After dropping the first set 22-25, St. Mary's stormed back to win 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.

The victory keeps alive a season that has seen the Rattlers finish with a fury. St. Mary's 18 victories marks its most wins since it won 19 in 2006, and the Rattlers also now have a shot at winning their first Heartland Conference Tournament championship since 2010.
