Shocker in Canyon: Rattlers upset #3 seed WT

CANYON, Texas — In the program's first Heartland Conference Tournament appearance since 2015, the No. 6 seed St. Mary's Rattlers defeated West Texas A&M 2-0 in a shocking upset over the No. 3 seed.
 
The tandem of Pato Botello Faz and Tommy Fogarty-Cameron connected in the 36th minute as Botello deposited his 13th goal of the season off a Cameron throw-in.
 
In the 62nd minute, Luis Sanchez iced the match for the Rattlers as he scored on a breakaway, beating the keeper one-on-one for his second goal of the season.
 
Collecting the clean sheet was Gerard Roebuck who registered a match-high six saves.
 
Awaiting the Rattlers in the semis is No. 2 seed St. Edward's, the No. 14 ranked team in the country. The teams last played less than a week ago in the Rattlers' home finale, with the Hilltoppers topping the Rattlers 2-1.
 
St. Mary's will look for the upset on Friday, Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas at the MSU Soccer Field.
