Home sweet home: Rattlers bounce back with huge win

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — A starting lineup featuring five freshman paced the Rattlers to a 3-1 victory over Newman Thursday night at home.

After struggling on the road as of late, the Rattlers rebounded with a quality performance, striking for a trio of goals in the second half to improve to 6-1 at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

"I thought it was an outstanding performance tonight," head coach Matt Barnes said. "Beating a Newman team who's been unbeaten in their last five matches."

During that stretch, the Jets held opponents scoreless, earning a pair of victories over Oklahoma Christian and Eastern New Mexico.

The scoring began with a goal from Nenad Markovic off a free kick in the 58th minute. Four minutes later, the Pato Botello added to his stellar goal totals, with a goal off a Markovic assist.

A Jets goal in the 69th minute kept the match close until the Rattlers capitalized on an own goal in the 82nd minute.

Saturday, the Rattlers will recognize the team's seniors on Senior Day before hosting Rogers State in an important conference clash.
