UTPB stuns Rattlers in OT

PERMIAN BASIN, Texas — Texas-Permian Basin stunned St. Mary's three minutes into overtime Thursday, escaping with a 2-1 victory in Heartland Conference play.

Stefan Faria curved a shot around the wall to give the Falcons the victory at UTPB Turf Field.

The goal came nearly 14 minutes after UTPB evened the score on a Paul Balderrama goal in the 79th minute.

St. Mary's (7-5-1, 5-4) led most of the night as Pato Botello Faz scored in the seventh minute — his 10th goal of the season — on a breakaway shot up the middle. He was assisted by Joaquin Diaz.   

The Rattlers controlled possession, outshooting the Falcons (5-6-1, 4-5) 18-11, including 10-1 in the first half.

St. Mary's moves on to face Lubbock Christian in a pivotal game Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. from LCU Soccer Field.
