Porter’s late-game heroics lift Rattlers past Jets

SAN ANTONIO — "Special players make special plays," Jason Martens said of his sophomore point guard, Arysia Porter, after her game-winning layup with three seconds left secured a 67-65 victory over Newman.
 
Porter finished with 17 points and four rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting from the field as the Rattlers locked up their fourth straight victory.
 
Senior Kiara Etheridge poured in a team-high 21 points and 13 rebounds for another double-double, helping the Rattlers improve to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in conference. The win puts the Rattlers in a tie for first in the Heartland Conference standings with rival St. Edward's.
 
LaBraile Fields added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists with Sierra Dixon eight points and three rebounds off the bench.
 
The Rattlers gear up for a three-game road trip beginning on Jan. 26 when they visit UA Fort Smith.
