Early goals end Rattlers' unbeaten streak

SAN ANTONIO — It took a pair of set pieces from the St. Edward's Hilltoppers to hang the first loss on the St. Mary's Rattlers this season. The Rattlers dropped the contest 2-0 Thursday night at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

St. Edward's goals in the 14th and 21st minutes proved to be too much for the Rattlers as they were outshot 16-8 in the match placing only a single shot on frame.

Freshman Alexia Maldonado tallied a team-high three shots while fellow freshman Olivia Bachelet added two shots of her own.

Erin Longford posted a match-high five saves, keeping St. Edward's scoreless throughout the second half.

Saturday, the Rattlers will host Dallas Baptist in a Heartland Conference matchup at 1 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
