SAN ANTONIO — As far as first impressions go, this one couldn't have gone much better for St. Mary's Women's Soccer.

The Rattlers shut out visiting University of the Southwest 12-0 Thursday evening, as eight different Rattlers found the net in their home debut at Sigma Beta Chi Field. The performance marked the most goals St. Mary's scored in a game since netting 22 in a 22-0 victory over Texas Southern in 2004.

Montana Montes and Alexia Maldonado led the way for the Rattlers (1-0), scoring two goals apiece before nearly 200 fans. Montes was part of a quarter of seniors — along with Lisa Tomenendal, Megan Tomlin and Shea Dinsmore — to net their first career goals in the Rattler Gold and Blue.

Thursday's performance was such a dominant showing that St. Mary's goalies Caitlin McCarrell and Erin Longford didn't face a single shot in the game. The Rattlers outshot the Mustangs (0-1) 22-0 in the first half en route to carrying an 8-0 lead into the break. St. Mary's outshot their opponent 46-0 for the game.

The onslaught began at the 31:37 mark of the first half, when Tomenendal put the Rattlers on the board with the team's first goal of the season. St. Mary's connected again less than two minutes later, as Heather Dawson scored at the 30:17 mark to make it 2-0.

It was the first of three separate occasions in which the Rattlers scored consecutive goals less than two minutes apart.

Rachel Gurinsky, Morgan Cave, Alexandra Pearson and Roxy Cruz Santory also scored in the game.

St. Mary's 12 goals marked the fifth-most goals in school history, while their 46 shots were the eighth-most on record.

The Rattlers will return to action Wednesday, when they host Texas A&M International at 7 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Rattler Network, while live stats will be available at www.RattlerAthletics.com. Tickets are also available online at www.StMUtickets.com.
