Red-hot Rattlers power past Dustdevils

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — One week after posting a dozen goals in the season opener, the St. Mary's Rattlers continued to fire on all cylinders in the first Heartland Conference meeting against Texas A&M International, defeating the Dustdevils 7-3 at Sigma Beta Chi Field on Wednesday night.

The Rattlers offense attacked quickly as Roxy Cruz Santory scored her second goal of the season in the fifth minute off a feed from Lisa Tomenendal.

After TAMIU netted an equalizer in the 17th minute, the Rattlers Tori Andrade broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with a header off a cross from Taylor Durham.

It was then, the Rattlers broke free as freshman Alexia Maldonado deposited her own goal, 16 seconds after Andrade.

Maldonado would soon add another goal in the 38th minute, bringing her goal count to four in two matches.

A Taylor Durham penalty kick in the 45th minute gave the Rattlers a 5-1 lead entering the half.

Despite two goals from the Dustdevils in the second half, the Rattlers added two more of their own.

Goals from Rachel Gurinsky and Lauren Mlouhi made it seven goals for the evening, 19 total through the first two matches of the year.

The high-powered Rattler offense will now take their show on the road as they visit Texas-Permian Basin for a Friday night showdown.
