Freshman Longford shines in draw to Jets

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — After 110 minutes of play, St. Mary's and Newman ended their conference match the same way it began, tied 0-0.

St. Mary's (4-0-1, 2-0-1) and Newman (3-1-3, 2-0-1) both entered the match unblemished through two conference matches.

Averaging over six goals per contest entering Saturday's match, the Rattlers were held without a goal for the first time this season. Much like the opposition, the Rattlers were able to keep the Jets off the scoreboard, in large part to a stellar eight-save performance from freshman Erin Longford who played in all 110 minutes.

Newman held the slight edge in shots with 20 (with 8 on frame) while the Rattlers managed 13 (with 4 on frame).

Alexia Maldonado led the Rattlers with four shots while Morgan Cave, Whitney Clark and Kaitlyn Judge tallied two shots each.

The Rattlers will travel to Lubbock Christian to face the Lady Chaps on Sept. 22 in a Heartland Conference match.
