@StMUvolleyball shuts out HPU, moves to .500 with 3rd straight win

BROWNWOOD, Texas — St. Mary's Volleyball made quick work of Howard Payne on Tuesday evening, picking up their third consecutive match, 3-0. 

Channing Hankins continued her hot stretch with 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage as the Rattlers (5-5) rolled 25-10, 25-9, 25-23. 

Freshman setter Bree Perry, this week's Heartland Conference Setter of the Week, led the way again, producing 31 of the team's 35 assists. She added four kills in five attempts. Maddi King posted a team-high seven digs. 

St. Mary's jumped on Howard Payne (1-5) right form the start, taking a quick 8-2 lead. Up 18-10, St. Mary's scored the final seven points to win 25-10.

Set 2 saw a tighter beginning, with St. Mary's leading 6-4. Coming out of a timeout, the Rattlers reeled off a 19-5 run to finish the match 25-9. 

Howard Payne fought hard in the final set, taking a 12-11 lead on a service ace from Briana Williams before seeing St. Mary's score six straight points to lead 17-12. St. Mary's opened up a 22-15 lead, but an eight-point run from Howard Payne saw the Rattlers fall behind 23-22. 

But the Rattlers finished it off with three consecutive points, capped off by Perry's service ace to win the match. 

St. Mary's will return home to play its home opener at Bill Greehey Arena at 7 p.m. Thursday against rival St. Edward's. The match will be streamed live online on the Rattler Network. Tickets to the match are available at www.StMUtickets.com.
