Rattlers complete sweep of TAMIU on Senior Day

By Ruben Dominguez | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — Senior Day at Dickson Stadium saw St. Mary's Baseball complete the series sweep of Texas A&M International with a 10-0 victory Saturday afternoon.

Nine Rattler seniors were honored before the first pitch. The nine included Jake Marler, Keith Funk, Garrett McKenzie, Greg Dobb, Jan Paul Reguero, Matt Smith, Jaryd Hodgson, Nathan Schwertner, and Kyle Jenkins

The celebrations continued after the ceremony with the St. Mary's recording 17 hits to amount to 10 runs.

Seniors Jan Paul Reguero and Matt Smith stole the show as the pair both provided three RBI, accounting for two-thirds of the Rattler offense on the day. Other key contributors on the afternoon included Jack Kaiser, who accounted for two RBI himself, and Bryce Brandl and Donnie Perez had one to their name as well.

After scoring one run in the first two innings, the Rattlers tacked on multiple runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to enact the run-rule in the bottom of the eighth inning.

St. Mary's also was aided by a solid pitching performance from Cole Hybner (6-5), who went five innings allowing only four hits and no runs on his way to winning the decision. Hayden Hibler, Jaryd Hodgson, and Troy Garcia would come in, each pitching an inning of relief.

The Rattlers will now gear up for the Heartland Conference Tournament in Belton, Texas, starting next week. No. 1 seed St. Edward's will host the tournament. The Rattlers will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed as their record now stands at 31-19 on the year and 16-11 in conference play.
