SAN ANTONIO — For the third year in a row, the St. Mary's Rattlers are headed to the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional following a pair of come from behind victories over Texas Woman's Saturday afternoon at the Softball Stadium.

With their season on the line once again, the Rattlers willed their way to victory in the first game of the day. Trailing by one, entering the sixth inning, the Rattlers struck for three runs off a three-run blast from Raynelle Nash who one day earlier a season saving single against Lubbock Christian.

"One of the big things is trusting each other," Nash said. "My job is to make good contact and see what happens at that point."

Another run was added as Sydney Wellmann drew a bases loaded walk that scored Kristal Salinas in the top of the seventh, icing the 4-1 win, forcing a winner-take-all final later in the afternoon.

Sparking the Rattler offense from the leadoff spot, Hannah Michel would go 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.

Jorden Russell was masterful in the circle once again, picking up her third straight victory of the weekend after pitching a complete game, allowing only one earned on five hits.

Game two saw the Rattlers and the Pioneers trade leads in an intense final encounter. An Alena Moreno sacrifice fly opened the scoring in the third inning. One inning later, the Pioneers answered, as they took a 2-1 lead.

A half inning later, the Rattlers scored two of their own, off a two-RBI single up the middle from Nash, giving them a 3-2 lead. The Pioneers would respond by tying the game one inning later at three, ultimately forcing extra innings.

Then, in the top of the eighth inning, Marcela Vasquez crushed a solo home run into the left field bullpen, launching the Rattlers into the Super Regional Tournament for the third straight time.

"This is a good team right here," Vasquez said. "We get along really well and that's part of why we've been so successful."

Collecting her fourth win of the tournament was Russell who pitched in relief, allowing only one earned run as she forced seven groundouts and seven flyouts.

"I'm proud of the girls," said coach Donna Fields postgame. "They did take another hard road, but they hung together."

The last two South Central Super Regional Champions are set to do battle as defending champion St. Mary's will travel to Canyon, Texas to face the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, West Texas A&M, in a rematch two years in the making.

Game 1 of the best-of-3 series will be on May 11 at Schaeffer Park with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
