Women's Tennis wins 4th straight with 9-0 triumph over UAFS

DALLAS — Remaining undefeated in Heartland Conference play, St. Mary's Women's Tennis team was able to seize their fourth straight victory over UA Fort Smith, 9-0, on Saturday.

The shutout, which saw the Rattlers improve to 13-3, was the third of its kind for the Snakes on the year.

Doubles saw the women drop 11 games total between the three teams as they strolled out to an early 3-0 lead.

Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman were victorious without dropping a single game at No. 1.

Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen were up against it at No. 2, but were able to defeat Thompson and Price in an 8-6 battle. Ally Maciel and Mariela Sarinana experienced a similar match as their teammates, but prevailed at No. 3 over Carr and Dinsemore, 8-5.

Having the lead going into singles play and now only needing to win two matches, the Snakes would not settle and went on to take the remaining six matches for the resounding win.

Starting off, the freshman duo of Maciel and Petersen both cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories over No. 5 Price and No. 6 Brunson, respectively. The sophomore tandem of Kruseman and Tyra Timm, who was inserted for singles, were not far behind as No. 3 Kruseman defeated Thompson 6-2, 6-1 and the No. 4 Timm would take the victory over Carr, 6-2, 6-2.

It would be the seniors to finish it off, as No. 2 Lopez was victorious over Tarwater 6-3, 6-2. Denton would round off the overall win with a 6-1, 6-4 result over Pearce.

The women will return to the courts Wednesday, April 13 in Mason, Texas as they take on yet another Heartland Conference rival in the University of Texas-Permian Basin.
