Rattlers secure home field for Heartland Conference Tournament

WICHITA, Kan. — With a Lubbock Christian loss, the St. Mary's Rattlers secured home field advantage for the Heartland Conference tournament with a 5-1 victory over Newman on Saturday, completing the weekend sweep of the Jets.
 
It was a solid all-around performance for the No. 10 team in the nation as the Rattlers jumped to a 2-0 lead after a Hannah Michel homer in the third inning and an RBI-double from Olivia Van Hook.
 
An RBI-double from Marcela Vasquez followed by a Van Hook RBI-single extended the Snakes lead to 4-1.
 
Vasquez would finish the game with a pair of doubles while Van Hook would go 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBI.
 
Sydney Wellmann continued her stellar senior campaign with a 4-for-4 outing at the plate with one RBI and one RBI scored.
 
In the circle, Jorden Russell tallied her 15th win of the season after going five innings and striking out four.
 
The Rattlers have one final road series at Texas A&M-Kingsville on April 12 before finishing the regular season at home.
