Rattlers rout Javelinas in final non conference series of season

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

KINGSVILLE, Texas — St. Mary's traveled to Texas A&M-Kingsville for its final two road games of the regular season. The Rattlers took care of business, run ruling the Javelinas in both games of the doubleheader, 10-2 and 8-0.

The afternoon began with Sydney Wellmann crushing a two-run homer to left center field in the top of the first inning. One inning later, Alena Moreno connected on her second hit of the game, scoring another run.

Moreno would finish the game 2-for-3 at the plate with two-RBI and two runs scored.

In the fourth, Wellmann sparked a five-run inning with a three-run blast to center field. Two batters later, Marcela Vasquez launched a two-run homer over the left field wall.

Jorden Russell tallied her 16th victory of the season as she tossed five complete innings with five strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Rattlers dominance continued, they struck for three runs in the third and fourth innings.

A two-RBI single by Miranda Medina capped off the third while Raynelle Nash connected on an RBI-double down the left field line.

Elizabeth Philips made the most of her pinch-hit plate appearance in the fifth as she knocked a two-RBI single up the middle.

Pitcher Ashley Mills came in for relief, picking up her 11th victory of the season as she remains undefeated as a Rattler, allowing only one hit in four innings of work while striking out three.

On April 22, the Rattlers will return home for the final regular season series of the year against Texas A&M International.
