WICHITA, Kan. — The Rattlers resumed conference play Friday afternoon against Newman, defeating the Jets in both games of their doubleheader, 5-0 and 5-2.

Freshman Jorden Russell headlined the Rattlers 5-0 victory in game one as she threw six complete shutout innings to claim her 14th win of the season.

Olivia Van Hook carried the load offensively for the Rattlers as she went 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored.

A Hannah Fields sacrifice fly in the third inning began the scoring for the Rattlers. In the fourth, Raynelle Nash knocked in the first of four runs in the inning with a single to left.

In game two, the Rattlers faced a bit of adversity as they were dealt an early two run deficit courtesy of a pair of runs in the third inning by the home team. But in typical fashion, the Rattlers responded with a two-run homer from Alessandra Ortiz in the top of the fifth.

Then with the game tied at 2-2 in the seventh, the Snakes put the game away with a three-run inning that began with a Van Hook single. Four batters later, Van Hook would score on an RBI-single from Hannah Michel. Kristal Salinas would cap off an impressive day at the plate with a two-RBI double down the line, securing the Rattlers 34th victory of the season.

Ashley Mills tallied her 10th win as she remains undefeated this season surrendering only one hit in four innings pitched with six strikeouts

Both the Rattlers and Jets will conclude their three-game series on Saturday at the NU Softball Field with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
