@StMUsoftball split series against Bronchos

EDMOND, Okla. — Beginning the final road trip of the season, the St. Mary's Rattlers faced Central Oklahoma in a doubleheader, splitting the pair of games, at Broncho Field on Wednesday.

A Sydney Wellmann single up the middle in the third inning of game one began the scoring as part of a four-run inning. After Wellmann reached base, a two-RBI triple from Raynelle Nash doubled the Rattlers' lead as they would win 5-2.

Along with Wellmann and Nash, Miranda Medina registered a pair of hits in the ball game.

Once again, Jorden Russell excelled in the circle as she tossed another complete game, striking out three and forcing 10 groundouts. The reigning Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week picked up her 13th victory of the season as she improves to 13-3.

The Rattlers were derailed in game two as they dropped a high scoring affair 12-8. Back-to-back homers in the first inning from Kristal Salinas and Wellmann gave StMU the early lead.

Then, after a six-run third inning for the Bronchos, the Rattlers were forced to play from behind. A two-run homer from Marcela Vasquez narrowed the deficit, but UCO would come away victorious.

Up next for the Rattlers will be a three-game series against conference foe, Newman, beginning on Friday at 4 p.m.
