Rattlers drop series finale to UAFS

FORT SMITH, Arkansas — The St. Mary's baseball team fell in the series finale to UA Fort Smith, 9-2, on Saturday.

St. Mary's ends the series having taken two of three games from the Lions. The Rattlers fell behind early as UAFS jumped out 5-0 on Saturday. The Rattlers tried to battle back and fell short.

Cole Hybner took the loss in the ballgame to move to 5-5 on the year. 

Keith Funk had a nice day at the plate for the boys in blue, going 2 for 3 at the plate with a walk.

The loss leaves the Rattlers still behind Newman University for the final spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament. St. Mary's fell to 28-19 on the year and 13-11 in conference.

St. Mary's will have three more conference games on the year in order to catch up to Newman. The Rattlers will take on Texas A&M International for their final series of the year. Newman, meanwhile, will be taking on the top seed in the Heartland Conference, St. Edward's University.
