Women's Tennis blanks SEU 9-0 for 4th straight Heartland crown

AUSTIN — For the fourth consecutive year, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis team is able to call itself Heartland Conference champions — and they did it this time in style.

The Rattlers defeated long–time conference foe St. Edward's University, 9-0, to successfully defend their crown once again. The win marked the 17^th on the season for St. Mary's and it was their fifth shutout win. The Snakes also kept their eight-match winning streak intact and also finished the regular season undefeated in conference play.

All three doubles teams were able to come out victorious in the doubles portion, highlighted by a 8-3 victory by No. 18 Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen at No. 2. Ally Maciel and Mariela Sarinana were right behind as they were able to come out victorious over the SEU No. 3's of Zecevic and Galvan.

No. 11-ranked doubles duo Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman ultimately took St. Mary's into the 3-0 lead with an 8-5 win over Sampath and Williams.

In singles, it would not be as smooth of sailing for No. 44 Denton as she battled against Sampath to a thrilling 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 victory at No. 1.
In the remaining five matches, the Rattlers would only lose a combined total of 12 games en route to five victories. No. 35 Lopez would get out to a fast start and close her match out with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Zecevic at No. 2. Maciel was right behind as she defeated Martinez at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1.

Kruseman and Peterson, at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively, cruised to 6-1, 6-0 victories before Tyra Timm, who would win her matchup at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1.

The win moves the Rattlers' record to 17-3 and will now set the women up as the No. 1 seed heading into the Heartland Conference Championship April 29-30 in Dallas.
