By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — On the final day of the regular season, St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International, 7-1, to complete the weekend sweep of the Dustdevils at the Softball Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The day began with seniors Hannah Fields, Sydney Wellmann, LeeAnn Campos and Veronica Garcia being honored on Senior Day. When play began, it was freshman Jorden Russell who starred for the Rattlers as she picked up her 14th straight victory in as many decisions. Russell threw five innings, allowed only one run while striking out four.

An Alena Moreno 2-RBI single to left in the second inning gave the Rattlers an early 3-0 lead.

In the fifth, Miranda Medina put the game away with a booming two-run homer off the left field foul pole. She would finish the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three-RBI.

Fellow junior Olivia Van Hook added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a run scored while Hannah Michel tacked on two hits of her own.

St. Mary's now sets its sights on the Heartland Conference Tournament that is set to begin on Thursday, April 28. The Rattlers (40-9, 22-2) will play host as the No. 1 seed in the conference. For more information on the Rattlers' postseason run, check back to RattlerAthletics.com.
