Rattlers unable to overcome deficit against LCU

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's Rattlers could not pull off the sweep of the Lubbock Christian Chaperals Saturday at the Softball Stadium, dropping the series finale, 5-1.
 
Before the game, the 1986 Rattlers National Championship team was honored in a pregame ceremony, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the university's first-ever national championship.
 
As play began, it was the Lady Chaps that jumped out to an early lead. Trailing 3-0 in the third, a Sydney Wellmann RBI-single trimmed the deficit to two. But that would be as close as the Rattlers would get as LCU would add two more runs in the seventh to end the Rattlers chances at victory.
 
Wellmann would finish 1-for-3 at the plate as Marcela Vasquez tallied a pair of hits going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.
 
Hannah Michel knocked in a pair of singles as she went 2-for-2 while Alessandra Ortiz connected on a pinch-hit single.
 
St. Mary's will return to action next week with a non conference matchup at Central Oklahoma on April 6.
