Rattlers downed by Hilltoppers in series finale

AUSTIN, Texas — In the latest Battle of the Saints, the Rattlers could not overcome the No. 6 St. Edward's Hilltoppers in the final game of the weekend series as they fell on the road 13-3 in seven innings.
 
The Hilltoppers scored six unanswered runs against the Rattlers, beginning in the third inning. In the fifth, the Rattlers got on the board courtesy of a three-run blast from catcher Keith Funk.
 
By the bottom of the inning, the Hilltoppers secured the victory with a six-run fifth inning, extending their lead to nine. A run in the sixth from the Toppers put an end to the game as the Rattlers were defeated in a run rule.
 
Funk's homer was the only extra base hit the Rattlers were able to muster in the contest. The only other Rattler to find success at the plate was Matt Smith who finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
 
Cole Hybner picked up the loss for the Rattlers as he tossed three innings, allowing four hits, three runs and two earned.
 
The Rattlers will cap their road trip with a non conference game against Angelo State on April 19.
