Women's Tennis blanks UTPB to stay atop Heartland standings

MASON, Texas — Back to winning ways and back on an impressive win streak, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis Team was able to record another shutout victory, 9-0, over University of Texas-Permian Basin on Wednesday afternoon.

The win marked the 14th of the season and fourth win in the Heartland Conference for the Snakes. It was the second consecutive victory without dropping a match and the women have only lost a total of five matches in their last five victories.

Starting the clean sweep in doubles was Ally Maciel and Mariela Sarinana, who recorded an 8-1 win at No. 3 to defeat the team of Greene and Greene. The No. 1's and No. 2's were not far behind as No. 11-ranked Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman, and Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen both recorded 8-2 wins against their Falcon opponents.

Singles went much the same for the Rattlers, as St. Mary's lost a total of nine games in six singles matches. The most impressive of the victories coming from No. 2 Lopez as she won 6-0, 6-0 over Orona. 

The women will be on the road again as they travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on Tarleton State on Friday. Their record now stands at 14-3 and 4-0 in Heartland Conference play.
