Rattlers get past Florida Southern

SAN ANTONIO — There was nothing lucky about the Rattler Women's Tennis team's seventh straight victory Saturday against Florida Southern, 6-3. 

The win was the second on the weekend after the 8-1 victory against Southeastern Oklahoma University on Friday and second against out of state opponents on the season. 

The Rattlers took a 2-1 advantage out of doubles after No. 2 team of Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen dismissed the team of Devrimci and Rionda 8-4. Mariela Sarinana and Ally Maciel followed suit with an impressive 8-0 victory at No. 3 against Cureton and Eldredge. 

With the lead heading into singles, the Rattlers finished strong taking four of the singles matches in the balance. Lopez would go 2-0 on the day as she dispatched of Devrimci 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Petersen would do the same as her doubles partner as she took the win at No. 6 6-1, 6-0 against FSU's Stamford. 

Kaylin Kruseman would avenge her loss in doubles and defeat Rionda 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3, before Tyra Timm would round out the results with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Popovic at No. 5. 

The Snakes (7-1) will return the courts next Saturday as they travel to Midland to take on Western New Mexico.
