ODESSA, Texas — Sydney Wellmann homered twice — her third and fourth shots of the series — and Raynelle Nash added a home run of her own as No. 10-ranked St. Mary's Softball run-ruled Texas-Permian Basin 17-8 in five innings Saturday.

Wellmann went 3 for 3 and drew a base on balls as she drove in five runs and scored three times to lead the Rattlers (18-5) to their 10th straight victory. Nash added five RBI of her own on a 3-for-4 outing, including her fourth-inning homer that helped cap off a nine-run frame for the Rattlers. Hannah Michel also starred, going 3 for 4 with four runs scored to go along with three RBI.

For the series, which St. Mary's (18-5, 6-0 in Heartland Conference) swept 3-0, Wellmann drove in 14 RBI and homered four times over 19 innings of work.

St. Mary's led 8-2 following a six-run second inning, but a Falcon grand slam helped UTPB put together a six-run inning of their own to tie the score at 8-8 through two innings.

But there was no coming back from St. Mary's second offensive surge in the fourth.

Michel doubled to lead off the inning, and Wellmann subsequently brought her in on a two-run home run to right field. St. Mary's then loaded the bases on a fielding error and two walks, and Alessandra Ortiz made the Falcons pay when she was hit by a pitch that brought in a runner for an 11-8 lead.

Hannah Fields drew the third walk of the inning to bring in another run before Alena Moreno's bases-loaded, one-out RBI single to left made it 13-8. Hannah Michel followed with her second base hit of the inning, this time a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 15-8. Wellmann then drew St. Mary's fifth walk of the inning, setting up Nash's two-RBI single to center field that pushed the Rattlers' advantage to 17-8.

Ashley Mills got the victory in relief for St. Mary's to improve her season record to 5-0. Mills, who relieved Kristi Rangel, allowed one run and struck out two over 3 2/3 innings of work.

The series saw iconic coach Donna Fields reach her 800th career win Friday. Fields' career record now sits at 801-319.

St. Mary's will be back in action Wednesday, when they travel to Denton, Texas to take on Texas Woman's for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
