By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

ODESSA, Texas — Behind a dominating performance from Sydney Wellmann, the Rattlers swept their Friday doubleheader against Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.

Highlighted by a sixth inning grand slam by Wellmann and a complete game outing from Hope Russell, the Rattlers took the opening game 9-3. Russell (5-1) threw seven complete innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out four batters.

The scoring began with a solo blast from Marcela Vasquez to left field in the fourth inning. Alena Moreno added a pair of singles with an RBI and one-run scored.

In the nightcap, the Rattlers sustained their level of play against the Falcons in a 7-0 victory. Wellmann continued her hot-streak opening up the scoring with a two-RBI single in the third inning before sending a three-run home run out of the park in the sixth.

Supplementing the Rattlers' offense was Hannah Michel who went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.

Jorden Russell picked up her fifth victory of the season after throwing a complete game, three-hit shutout. The win marks St. Mary's ninth straight victory, its tenth in 12 games.

The Snakes and Falcons will play the final of their three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m.
