By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — After the Rattlers dropped the first game of the day to Rogers State 6-4, St. Mary's Keith Funk brought "the funk" and his bat when he stepped up to the plate in the seventh inning of the Rattlers 12-6 victory over Rogers State in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader.

Funk capped off a five-run seventh inning for the Rattlers, securing the team's first conference victory of the season, with a three-run blast to left field. He would finish the game going 3-for-4 from the plate with four-RBI and a run scored.

Going 2-for-3 was Angel Vega who scored a two runs and tallied two-RBI while Jack Kaiser went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Picking up the win was Ty Miles tossed six innings allowing four runs and striking out three as he retired 20 of the 27 batters faced. Miles improves to 2-2 on the season with the win.

In game 1, the Rattlers managed to take the lead on two separate occasions only to concede a three-run sixth inning to the Hillcats that denied the Snakes the victory.

Matt Smith provided a strong effort for the Rattlers at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored as Kyle Jenkins picked up a pair of hits in three at-bats.

Cole Hybner drew the start as he threw for five innings, surrendering five runs despite striking out four. The loss drops Hybner's record to 3-2.

St. Mary's will continue conference play when they travel to Lubbock Christian for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Friday.
