#11 Women's Tennis cruises past WNMU for 8th straight win

MIDLAND, Texas — No. 11th-ranked St. Mary's Women's Tennis made it eight straight victories Saturday with an impressive 9-0 win over Western New Mexico.

The win was the first shutout victory since they won by the same score line Feb. 4 at Trinity.

The women got off to a flying start when the No. 2 team of Ally Maciel and Hannah Petersen notched a resounding 8-0 victory over Ojuna and Newell.

The senior No. 3 team of Kerry Wiegand and Joanie Bryant got in on the act as they followed their teammates with an 8-4 win of their own against Morrill and Heinze. Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-5 at No. 1 over Newell and Goodland.

Heading into singles, Lopez continued her dominance as she only dropped a single game on her way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over Newell. Her doubles partner, Petersen, was not far behind as she charted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Morill.

The Rattlers continued the sweep with a pair of victories from No. 2 Denton and No. 3 Kruseman as Denton recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ojuna and the latter with a reverse score of 6-0, 6-3 over Newell.

Maciel and Tyra Timm, who was inserted for singles play, capped the victory for the Snakes as the freshman Maciel defeated the Mustangs' Goodland 6-4, 6-2 and the sophomore Timm rolled to victory as well, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Heinze at No. 5.

The win moved the Rattlers' record to 8-1 and now the focus will turn to a three-match road trip to Colorado where they will face a slew of tough opponents next week.
