#11 Women's Tennis victorious in 9-0 shutout of Trinity

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's Tennis garnered its first victory of the spring season, 9-0, over crosstown rival Trinity Thursday afternoon on the campus of Trinity.

St. Mary's got off to a fast start in doubles as the No. 1 team of Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman defeated Mari Lutz and Liza Southwick, 8-5.

The No. 2 team of Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen and No. 3 team of Mariela Sarinana and Ally Maciel would follow suit with Lopez/Petersen winning 8-1 over Blaire Porter and Andrea De Leon. The later would follow suit, coming out victorious 8-2 over Trinity's Cheyenne Duncan and Caroline Kutach.

The Rattlers rode the momentum into singles action as they would take all the spoils.

Kruseman would only drop one game on her way to a victory at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Lutz. Lopez would continue the trend at No. 3 with an impressive 6-4, 6-0 victory over Gabrielle Roe.

Three freshmen posted their first singles victories in Gold and Blue as Sarinana was victorious over Duncan 6-2, 6-1 over Duncan at No. 6. Petersen won 6-2, 6-3 over Porter at No. 5, and Maciel at No. 4 defeated De Leon 6-2, 6-3.

No. 1 Denton was involved in a tough three-set match and after dropping the first set, came out with a close 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory to round out the overall result for the Rattlers.

It proves to be a quick turnaround for St. Mary's (1-1) as the Rattlers will travel to Laredo, Texas tomorrow to take on Laredo Community College.
