5th-inning “riot” highlights Rattlers' comeback against Bronchos

Rattler Invitational All-Tournament Team Announced

SAN ANTONIO — With the Three Days Grace song, "Riot", blaring through the Softball Stadium after a fifth inning grand slam by Sydney Wellmann, the Rattlers completed a riot of their own, exploding for 10 runs in the inning, capping off a remarkable comeback against Central Oklahoma on the final day of the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational, walking away with the 11-7 victory.
 
Despite starting slow through the first four innings, trailing 5-1, the Rattlers were able to avenge their loss to the Bronchos at the start of the weekend behind strong performances throughout the lineup.
 
During the fifth inning erruption, three Rattlers homered, beginning with a three run blast from Raynelle Nash who finished the afternoon 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI.
 
Three batters later, Miranda Medina blasted a two-run bomb to left field putting the Rattlers in front 6-5. The homer was the fourth in Medina's career, the first in two seasons.
 
After Hannah Michel singled to double the Rattler lead, Wellmann punctuated the inning, crushing the second pitch of the at-bat over the center field wall.
 
Wellmann finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI as Michel went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and one RBI.
 
In the circle, the StMU got five solid innings from pitcher Ashley Mills who improves to 4-0 on the season. Mills is one of four Rattlers selected for the All-Tournament Team.
