SAN ANTONIO — Home runs from
Hannah Michel,
Sydney Wellmann and
Kristal Salinas lifted No. 12 St. Mary's to a pair of victories on Day 2 of the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Softball Stadium in The Park at St. Mary's.
It was a complete performance for the Rattlers against Texas A&M International in Game 1 as they cruised to a 6-0 victory. The day began with a solo shot in the first by from Michel who continues her hot-streak at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 in the game with a stolen base.
Picking up her third win of the season was
Ashley Mills as she threw a complete-game shutout. Allowing only three hits Mills powered through the Dustdevils' line up as she struck out six batters.
Salinas added to the Rattlers' lead in the fourth with a single to right that scored
Raynelle Nash.
Alena Moreno brought in a pair of runs on her second hit of the contest in the 6th inning, finishing 2-for-4 in the game.
In the nightcap against Oklahoma Christian, Wellmann catapulted the Rattlers in front with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored.
Freshman
Kristal Salinas joined the home run party, launching her first-career homer to lead off the fifth inning.
Picking up the win was
Hope Russell (3-1) who threw 3.1 innings and struck out a pair of batters.
The Rattlers will close the weekend with a rematch against Central Oklahoma on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
