SAN ANTONIO — The first match of the three-game set went to the St. Mary's Rattlers, 9-2, as they were able to take down the Our Lady of the Lake Saints.

The Rattlers improved to 7-4 while the Saints dropped to 5-7.

St. Mary's jumped out early in the first inning and never looked back as it managed to put up two runs in the first inning. The Saints answered back, but were not able to do significant damage to Rattlers' starter Ty Miles (1-2), who picked up his first win on the season. Despite being threatened, Miles was always able to minimize the damage done by the Saints. A pivotal moment for the Rattlers was when Miles was able to work his way through a bases-loaded and no-out situation in the second inning by only surrendering one run.

The Rattlers had a tough task in front of them facing off against the ace of the Saints, JB Martinez (2-1). Martinez had yet to surrender a run all season in three games, but allowed five runs (four earned) to the boys in blue. It was a balanced effort out of the Rattlers at the plate as four players tallied two RBI. Jack Kaiser added to his home run total with a solo shot in the seventh inning and ended up with a 3-for-5 effort with two RBI and two runs.

Kyle Jenkins also had a 2-for-5 day while scoring a run and adding two RBI. Matt Smith also had a similar 2-for-5 night with a run and two RBI as the Rattlers' top of the lineup seemed to be providing ample opportunities all game long.

While the top of the order was providing the pop, the bottom of the order provided the small ball as the Rattlers were able to produce runs via several different methods.

Trent Rousseau came in for a relief effort for the Rattlers and pitched two innings of no-hit ball. Rousseau retired six of the eight batters he faced.

The two teams are set to match up once again Saturday. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. Be sure to tune in to RattlerAthletics.com/live2 in order to watch the Rattlers live on the Rattler Network.
