Rattlers drop regular season home finale

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — Trailing by a basket with 14 seconds left, Kiara Etheridge lifted a shot through traffic that hung on the rim, teasing the possibility of a tie ballgame.  Etheridge's shot missed its mark as the Rattlers fell to Texas A&M International 57-53 in the regular season home finale for the Rattlers Thursday night.

After trailing for most of the game, the Rattlers reeled off eight straight points to bring the game even 47-47, midway through the 4th quarter. The Dustdevils quickly responded with a 6-0 run that put them back in control.

After shooting over 35 percent from three, St. Mary's went frigid from behind the arc, shooting 1-for-12 from distance in the second half.

LaBraile Fields led the way for the Snakes as she finished with 16 points and three rebounds. Etheridge finished two points shy of another double-double with eight points and 14 boards.

Kealani Marquez fueled the Rattler offense off the bench as she poured in eight points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field, including a pair of triples.

Dezirae Elias, Mariah Lee and Arysia Porter each finished with seven points apiece as the trio combined for 10 rebounds.

The Rattlers will close out the season on the road next week with a pair of games against Lubbock Christian and Oklahoma Panhandle State beginning on Feb. 25 in Lubbock, Texas.
