@StMUsoftball goes 1-for-2 on final day of West Texas Invitational

CANYON, Texas — St. Mary's Softball took the field for the final day of the West Texas Invitational Sunday, splitting its pair of games against Metro State and Eastern New Mexico.
 
The Rattlers began the day the same way they began the weekend, by putting runs up on the board as the high-powered offense muscled the Rattlers to a 12-6 come-from-behind victory over Metro State.
 
Spearheaded by three RBI from Hannah Michel, the Rattlers tallied a combined six-runs during the third and fourth innings. Michel's double in the third brought the Rattlers within two runs. Her two-run home run an inning later pushed the Rattlers ahead 7-4.
 
In addition, Sydney Wellmann and Kristal Salinas each recorded a pair of hits and RBI.
 
Hope Russell picked up her fourth win of the season as she struck out three batters in six innings pitched.
 
Against Eastern New Mexico, the Rattlers could not overcome an early deficit as they fell to the Greyhounds 11-6.
 
Once again, it was Michel leading the way for the Rattlers as she recorded two RBI on a pair of hits.
 
Hannah Fields, Raynelle Nash and Salinas each notched an RBI.  Fields finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
St. Mary's will return home on Feb. 19 for the start of the Rattler Invitational.
